16 June 2018 - 13:00

Event organised by United Nations Association (UNA) Norwich

Dr Jayne Gifford from the History Department at UEA will give a talk entitled "On the Fringes of Empire: Life in the North-West Frontier Province in the Aftermath of the First World War". Dr Gifford will focus on the administration of the British Empire in its outer limits - the North-West Frontier Province - through the eyes of one of its key imperial administrators - John Loader Maffey.
The period 1919-1924 was a period of overstretch and readjustment for the British Empire as at the same time it had to contend with the Third Anglo-Afghan War of 1919 and also growing pressure to advance within the Indian sub-continent.
