Norwich Rising

14th February is V-Day – a global day of action to demand an end to violence against women. A billion women, and those who love them, will strike and rise for justice. Why?

ONE IN THREE WOMEN ON THE PLANET WILL BE RAPED OR BEATEN IN HER LIFETIME

THAT IS ONE BILLION WOMEN

Here in Norwich, our plan is simple. We want as many people as possible to meet outside the Forum between 1pm and 2pm and join us for an hour of drumming and dance. We’ve got a specially created rhythm for you to learn and invite you to bring pots and pans to drum with. This is to reflect that so much violence against women is in a domestic setting. We’ll also be dancing and drumming to “Break the Chain”.

Every year we organise a flash mob outside the forum on the 14th February made up of women, men who love women, children, groups, schools etc. Each year we try something different the first year was dancing the 2nd year was drumming with pots and pans in morse code music. Next year will be something different. If you have an idea for next year 2015 please let us know. This year we had drumming music teachers go into schools to teach the children the music. Everything is done for free and organised for free but we have been fundraising for Leeway and promoting other organisations that help victims of violence. Leeway also help men in the same situation. The focus of the 14th is about women all over the world.
